According to its accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, chassis 125009 was manufactured on 28th June 1985 and dispatched to Grange Jaguar of Brentwood, Essex some four weeks later. 1 of just 45 XJ-SC 5.3 cars to be factory-finished in Claret that year, the 2+2-seater was supplied new to the electronics concern Tadmod Ltd of Maldon. Thereafter, it is known to have belonged to Mr Redcliffe of New Milton, Mr Trickett of Christchurch, Mr Nicholls of Bournemouth and Mr Webb of Silchester before being purchased by the vendor for £13,500 on 20th July 2007. A series of old MOT certificates dating back to 1988 @ 14,247 miles would indicate that the current odometer reading of 46,200 miles represents the total covered from new. Riding on lattice alloy wheels (the original starfish pattern ones are available for a new owner to collect from Spain where the car has been used of late), the Jaguar also sports a wood rim steering wheel, quad headlamp conversion, over carpets and additional `Auto Styling' wood veneers to its automatic gear selector / stereo surrounds. Entrusted to main dealer Lancaster Reading for a £3,223.44 service @ 36,096 miles, the XJ-SC has been maintained by the vendor over the last seven years including oil and coolant changes in March 2012 and February 2014. Mechanically enhanced via the addition of sports steering rack bushes and a rear anti-roll bar, `C545 CPR' is described by the seller as being in `good overall' condition with regard to its bodywork, 5.3 litre V12 engine, electrical equipment and automatic transmission, while he rates the Claret paintwork and Doeskin leather upholstery as `average for age' and `very good' respectively. A low mileage example of a much underrated Jaguar, chassis 125009 is offered for sale with original pre-delivery inspection card, jack, UK V5C Registration Document, past sales invoices, assorted bills and sundry other paperwork.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
