Lot #91909

This 1996 Jaguar XJS is a 2+2 Celebration Edition convertible that spent much of its life in California and was relocated to Tennessee after the seller acquired it in 2012. The car is finished in Spindrift White over Coffee leather and is powered by a 4.0-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a power-retractable tan soft top, 16″ alloy wheels, a limited-slip differential, power-adjustable front sport seats, and an aftermarket Alpine CD stereo. This XJS convertible shows 41k miles and is now offered with the owner’s manual, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Tennessee title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in Spindrift White and features a power-retractable tan soft top, fog lights, dual exhaust outlets, and a telescoping antenna. Flaws include wear in the soft top near the upper right corner of the rear window, cracked paint on the rear brake light cover, and a scratch on the left corner of the rear bumper cover that has been touched up.

The 16″ alloy wheels are mounted with 225/60 Michelin Premier A/S tires. Braking is handled by power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes.

The cabin features seating surfaces upholstered in Coffee leather with contrasting white piping and a color-coordinated dashboard and carpeting. Appointments include power-adjustable front sport seats, Jaguar logo-embossed headrests, cruise control, and an aftermarket Alpine CD stereo with a Bluetooth telephone module. The air conditioning does not work, the wood trim on the shifter knob is chipped, and cracks are visible in the leather upholstery.

The four-spoke leather- and wood-trimmed steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 41k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership.

The 4.0-liter inline-six was factory rated at 237 horsepower and 282 lb-ft of torque. The seller states that the coolant was flushed in 2018 and the alternator was replaced in 2022.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.

Manufacturer’s literature is included in the sale.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
