This 1981 Jaguar XJ-S is said to have been purchased in Saudi Arabia by a previous owner, who subsequently drove it through Asia and continental Europe to England for installation of US equipment before importing it in 1985. Power is from a 5.3-liter V12 fitted with a Plus Torque Kit from AJ6 Engineering and paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. The car has been refinished in Sebring Red over a gray suede interior and is equipped with power steering, air conditioning, and an aftermarket stereo with USB and auxiliary inputs. Service since the seller’s acquisition from Texas in 2016 has included replacement of numerous steering, braking, driveshaft, electrical, and engine components as well as patching of the floors and installation of new weatherstripping. This XJ-S is offered with manufacturer’s literature, tools, an article describing the pre-importation road trip, a Carfax report, and a clean Louisiana title in the seller’s name.
The car is said to have been repainted in its original Sebring Red under previous ownership, and features hood louvers added by the seller. Chips and cracks are noted in the paintwork along with rust bubbling around the rear wheel arches. A water leak remains at the passenger door despite installation of new rubber door seals and window felts, and the front floors have been repaired, fiberglassed, and coated in POR-15. Aftermarket tint film has been added to the side and rear windows.
Factory 15″ domed starfish wheels are mounted with Yokohama Avid tires. Work under current ownership included installation of a rebuilt brake booster as well as replacement of the master cylinder, rotors, pads, pucks, seals, parking brake shoes, wheel bearings, ball joints, and upper inner bushings.
The interior is trimmed in gray suede with gray carpets and wood accents. Features include air conditioning, power windows, and an aftermarket stereo with auxiliary and USB inputs. The windshield wipers do not park automatically, the wood trim is cracked, and the lights meant to illuminate the climate controls, light switches, and ignition switch are broken. The rear parcel shelf is said to show signs of prior water damage.
Instrumentation consists of a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, and a bank of drum-style secondary gauges. The seller notes that the high beams turn signal cluster lamps do not illuminate as brightly as they should. The six-digit odometer shows just under 127k miles, 7k of which were added by the seller. Actual mileage is unknown.
The 5.3-liter V12 was reportedly fitted with a Plus Torque Kit from AJ6 Engineering consisting of modified exhaust manifolds, larger throttle bodies, and a remapped ECU in 2002. The seller states that he has conducted wiring repairs, rebuilt the power steering pump and rack, installed a custom-fabricated adjustable air valve, and replaced the following:
Front and rear main seals, cam cover gaskets
Front crank seal, rubber plug at chain tensioner
Fuel pressure regulators
Oil cooler hoses
Engine mounts
O2 sensors
Amplifier and pickup module
Ignition coil, distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires, vacuum advance pod
Throttle switch
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. An oil leak is noted from between the engine and transmission. The seller has reportedly greased the axle U-joints and replaced the transmission yoke and driveshaft U-joints as well as additional mounts and seals. A drivetrain vibration is said to be noticeable at 80 mph with the air conditioning switched on. The car is not equipped with catalytic converters.
The November 2019 Carfax report shows history in California, Texas and Louisiana, listing no accidents or other damage from October 1988 to December 2016. The seller notes a 2014 odometer reading of 137k miles, which is higher than the current figure displayed.
The car is supplied with owner’s and workshop manuals, a parts catalog, a factory tool kit and jack, and an article written by a former owner describing the pre-importation road trip.
