Car to be at auction 6/16
www.barons-auctions.com/auction_details.php

Auction description:
TWR XJS 5.3ltr
First Registered: 1985
Registration No: B328 JNJ
Mileometer:29,800
Chassis No: SAJJNAEW3BC120894
MOT: March 2017
Colour: Red/Silver

This immaculate 1985 XJ-S TWR was bought new on 4th January 1985 from Southern Counties in Crawley. A little later, the owner read a Motorsport Magazine article on the TWR XJ-S and decided to take his car to TWR, who transformed it into the ultimate version. At this time TWR had not formed the official partnership with Jaguar which led to the Jaguar Sport brand; indeed it was the success of cars like this one that allowed the latter to happen, in the same way AMG began as an aftermarket tuning brand with Mercedes.

The car was then serviced by Jaguar main dealers until 1990, when it was taken off the road and stored in his garage where it has remained, displaying its 1990 Tax Disc and an odometer indicating only 29,700 miles.

When the car was taken out of storage it is worth noting that there was absolutely no rot or rust anywhere to be found. The front bumper had a small crack in it and needed to be replaced and the car was showing the typical storage marks and scratches commensurate with cars that have been protected from the elements in domestic garages. Everything was original and unmolested.

The Full Jaguar main dealer service history with lots of invoices, and only 1 owner from new meant that the car merited a full head to toe recommissioning by a well-respected classic car restoration company who have invested over 400 hours of work into making this rare car one of the very best of its kind. The retail cost for this work would be over £30,000; and the result is nothing short of spectacular.

The history file contains the original leather Jaguar document holder complete with the dealer-supplied owner's manual, the Jaguar Guarantee, Pre-Delivery Inspection Card, Clarion Stereo Booklet, a huge file full of invoices documenting all of the service work carried out over the car's life, and a fresh MoT certificate until March 2017.

The specification includes climatic air conditioning which has had full overhaul including a new condenser and is working perfectly and blowing icy air, electric windows & mirrors, full leather interior, TWR Sports leather steering wheel, TWR body-kit, TWR rear spoiler, TWR Speedline 15-inch alloys, TWR Twin pipe stainless steel exhausts, lockable glove compartment, on-board trip computer, embroidered XJ-S TWR mats and even the original Clarion radio cassette.

Looking resplendent in metallic red with the trademark TWR metallic silver to the bumpers and lower parts of the body, the paintwork is in magnificent condition, having been subject to a bare metal re-paint. Being such a low mileage example, the condition of the interior is excellent and there is little or no wear to the bolsters of the seats, both remaining supple and supportive.

The 5.3-litre V12 has been subject to a full mechanical overhaul costing several thousand pounds. As part of its re-commissioning the car received new plugs, oils, new filters; the fuel tank and fuel lines were also removed, checked, and cleaned the high pressure fuel lines were replaced. Work has been carried out by several Jaguar specialists, most recently by Surrey based Jaguar Specialist SPM Motor Works who were given the remit to get the car in A1 mechanical condition. A further positive was their assessment was that the engine internals have not been modified which means that servicing costs are no more than any other XJ-S (some of the TWR engine tuned cars can be problematic to source parts) apart from the free flowing stainless steel TWR sections of the exhaust which allow the car to rev more freely.

Also included was a complete overhaul of the braking system to include new brakes front to rear. The car has also been treated to new Boge Shocks and springs at the rear while the fronts had been replaced previously. Needless to say the car sits on the road perfectly and feels like the day it left TWR. This sensational classic piece of Jaguar heritage draws admiring glances wherever it goes.

The car benefits from an improved flow, stainless steel exhaust coupled with subtle TWR quad-pipes. This example is equipped with genuine 15-hole 15-inch TWR alloy wheels, all of which are unmarked and are shod in the correct Pirelli P600 tyres.

The climatic A/C has recently undergone a costly overhaul to include a new condenser, hot water valve body, and a re-gas. The car has also been treated to a new headlining, and the carpets throughout are protected by a fitted set of TWR embroidered mats.

This is a car that has it all; as new condition throughout, 1 owner provenance, full main dealer servicing, rarity being from the desirable TWR stable, and in the most iconic of XJ-S colours. Not to be confused with inferior cars that do not sport the correct TWR options such as twin TWR tailpipes, cars that still bare chrome bright work as opposed to the correct TWR satin black finishing sported on genuine conversions (see picture of the 1985 TWR brochure showing a genuine finished car) and so on.

Still sporting the original supplying dealer sticker in the rear window this car is truly a piece of time warp Jaguar heritage. Surely one the best examples of a Jaguar XJ-S to be found anywhere and a must for any true Jaguar enthusiast or classic car investor.

Guide Price: £16,000 to £19,000
