Car was at auction in 2011
classiccars.brightwells.com/viewdetails.php

Auction description:
Lot number 97
Hammer value N/S (est. £1,750 - £2,250)
Description Jaguar XJS 4.0 Coupe
Registration L307 KDA
Year 1993
Colour Spruce Green Metallic
Engine size 3,980 cc
Chassis No. SAJJNAED3EJ190230

First registered in October 1993, this particular 4-litre Coupe looks most attractive in Spruce Green Metallic with a grey leather interior. It has covered some 135,000 miles from new but was reputedly fitted with a replacement engine and gearbox from a low mileage armour-plated diplomatic vehicle about 10,000 miles ago. These vehicles have to be destroyed to protect their ballistic secrets when they are taken out of service, but their drivetrains can be re-used.

It is believed that the engine and gearbox fitted to this car had covered some 35,000 miles when installed but the documentation relating to the transplant has been mislaid so this cannot be warranted, although we have spoken to a previous keeper of the vehicle, Brian Reid, technical officer of the XJS section of the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club, who has confirmed that this information is correct. Many of the suspension bushes were also replaced at about the same time.

Be that as it may, we have been using this car for the last five weeks and have racked up some 1,500 miles in it and can confirm that it drives outstandingly well with notably good ride, handling and brakes. It comes with all its original handbooks, two sets of keys and is taxed until April and MOTd until July.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
