The Interior

Bright cream leather specification looks gorgeous
Perfectly contrasting the darker exterior colour of this 1990 Jaguar XJS is a sumptuous cream leather cabin. The door cards, seats and parts of the dashboard and centre console trim all draw attention to themselves thanks to their bright colour. Throughout the rest of the interior, one will find shades of grey, black and plenty of wood trim.
Every surface in this vehicle is seemingly in excellent shape. The current owner informs us that the seats have frequently undergone leather preservation treatment. The rest of this cabin also looks fabulous. The black dashboard top shows no signs of cracking, the wood trim appears to shine excellently, and intricate pieces of chrome trim look great.
Grey carpet covers much of the floor as well as the rear storage compartment found behind the seats.
Several bits of tech surely improve this car’s useability and luxury. Electric windows, an up-to-date Blaupunkt stereo, air conditioning, an electrically operated soft top roof feature, cruise control and heated and massaging seats all feature in this car.
The Exterior
Elegant XJ body design
Paintwork looks near-immaculate
Soft top roof works as it should
An unnecessarily long bonnet, a stylish headlight shape, excellent chrome usage and a gorgeous side profile. There’s no denying the Jaguar XJ is one of the most elegant designs of its era.
This particular car, thanks to a very well-preserved body and paintjob, is certainly a brilliant example. The dark grey paintjob is complimented by red and white pinstriping along the side of the car, showing off the car’s continuous lines. We struggle to spot many imperfections in the paint, and the owner themselves points out the lack of marks or scratches.
Akin to the rest of the car’s exterior, the soft top roof looks to be in fantastic condition. In its fully reclined position, a cover comes with the car to protect the exposed headlining.
The wheels also seem to be in good condition. They are fitted with a full set of matching Pirelli tyres.
Underneath, the owner points out a few minor signs of wear and tear, but nothing one wouldn’t expect from a car of this age.
The Mechanics
5.3-litre V12, 286hp
Car starts easily
A lot of work gone into the car
Under the vast bonnet of this 1990 Jag XJS sits the range-topping 5.3-litre V12. This thunderous motor originating from 1960’s Le Mans sportscar racing is good for 286hp in the XJS, plenty for motorway cruising. In fact, this example fitted with the 3-speed automatic transmission is surely destined to render long journeys a comfortable and sophisticated affair.
Invoices included in with the car show lots of previous work that has gone into the car. Everything from the differential to the exhaust, spark plugs and starting system have received attention over the past few thousand kilometres. As a result, the car starts easily according to the owner and “gives full driving satisfaction.”
