Auction description:
1991 Jaguar XJ-S 5.3 V12 Convertible Auto
Lot Number: 318
Estimate: £3,000 - 4,000
V5 Present
MoT May 2023
Chassis number: SAJJNADW3DB171341

5,343cc. This convertible V12 XJ‑S has been owned by the vendor since 2010. Subject to an insurance claim in 2009, the car was purchased by the vendor some months later. The damage to the rear bumper, which was deemed as uneconomical to repair, is shown on two copy images provided and was repaired on the vendor's instructions in April 2010, a VIC pass certificate was issued in June 2010. It has been fitted with a TWR spoiler which is no longer produced and very hard to find. There are receipts on file during his ownership totaling over £4,000 which include new brakes, discs, calipers and pads all round, hand brake pads, rear brake pipe, steering rack, rear sub‑frame mounts and bushes. The car has covered around 1,000 miles during the last nine years and has been dry stored throughout but this storage has been lost, hence the vendor's decision to sell. It comes complete with the original service book stamped in 1991 and 1992 and three later handwritten entries covering 2010, 2012 and 2018, VIC pass certificate, MoTs from 2001 to the present, handbooks and wallet. Seven owners from new, the previous owner from 2000. The mileage is recorded at 96,238.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
