Lot 439a
1985 Jaguar XJS Cabriolet by Lister
Registration no: FSP1
Chassis no: SAJJNACW3CC123391

The example offered here is based on the XJ-SC HE cabriolet and has been sympathetically modified by the present owner. Mechanical work has been done by the well known marque specialist, Lister Cars, and includes the fitment of a Lister manual gearbox, sports suspension and a new sports exhaust. Cosmetically the car benefits from American specification twin headlamps, teardrop alloy wheels, dashboard instruments which are the traditional type with capillary water and oil temperature gauges. This Jaguar represents a unique opportunity to acquire a very rare car with an exceptional specification and some very special features as well as a direct link with Lister, one of the greatest exponents of Jaguar. Acquired in 1996 from Mr Stanley Meakins of Coventry, it was refurbished from top to bottom. This extremely competitively priced Lister is presented in good order throughout forming, as it did, part of a small but specialist collection of Jaguars in Scotland. Complete with a full years MoT test certificate, this wolf in wolfs clothing is not for the faint hearted.

Auction description:
Sale 20140 - Collectors' Motor Cars and Automobilia, 3 Mar 2012
Oxford
Lot No: 346
1985 Jaguar XJ-S HE 7.0-Litre Lister Cabriolet
Registration no. C186 XHP
Chassis no. SAJJNACW3CC123391
Engine no. LP118/7PL
Estimate: £16,000 - 20,000, € 19,000 - 24,000
Previously forming part of the Royal fleet, this XJ-S V12 HE Cabriolet was acquired in 1996 from a Mr Meakins of Coventry and then refurbished from top to bottom and sympathetically modified by the immediately receding owner. Mechanical work was carried by Lister Cars and included the latter's 7.0-litre conversion, five-speed manual gearbox, sports suspension and a new sports exhaust system. Cosmetically the car benefits from US-specification twin headlamps, 'teardrop' alloy wheels and traditionally styled dashboard instruments with capillary-type water and oil temperature gauges. Previously forming part of a small but specialist collection of Jaguars in Scotland, the XJ-S was purchased by the current owner at Bonhams' 'XK60' sale of Jaguar Motor Cars at Goodwood in August 2008 (Lot 219) since when it has formed part of his private collection. (Octane magazine voted this car the sale's 'best buy' in its November 2008 edition). Regularly started since acquisition, it would nevertheless benefit from re-commissioning prior to submission for MoT testing. Finished in black with cream leather interior, 'C186 XHP' represents an exciting opportunity to acquire a unique car possessing an exceptional specification and some very special features, as well as a direct link with one of the greatest of Jaguar exponents. Offered with comprehensive history file and Swansea V5.

Car now for sale in Kent March 21, 2018. On November 13, 2014 KWE said the car had been restored again by KWE and was For Sale. Their description:
One-off opportunity to buy a fully-restored 7.0 litre Lister Mk3 XJS. We are very pleased to bring you the news that, after a year of painstaking and intensive restoration, this extremely rare, if not unique, car is now For Sale. Jaguar World Monthly's editor Paul Walton describes it "as excessive as any car can get", especially as it's based on an XJS Cabriolet, not a convertible. Listed on the KWE website with the following description. "This unique car has been the subject of an extensive and expensive body and suspension restoration by KWE throughout 2013. It is now For Sale. It is a Lister Mark 3, based on the Jaguar XJS, with a Lister 7 litre V-12 engine driving through a strengthened 5 speed manual gearbox. The list of works KWE has carried out is very lengthy but here are the highlights: Complete body strip including removal of the bonded-on Lister body kit. Substantial rust repairs completed to a high standard. Bare-metal respray in Jaguar solid black and re-bonding of the body kit with modern materials. Extensive rust protection in cavities and underfloor. Re-manufactured Lister Compomotive wheels with new, correct tyres. All new suspension, brakes and steering incorporating the full Lister A frame rear suspension modifications for good traction. Engine (low mileage) external overhaul and detailing. Full KWE/Omex digital engine management system. Custom stainless steel large bore exhaust system. Full new interior, two tone grey leather, custom stained maple woods, embossed seats and door cards, and black wool carpets throughout. Integrated Clarion SatNav and audio system with flip up screen, bluetooth and iPod connection and JL Audio high performance speakers. Quad headlamps. All brightwork matt satin blacked. Full air conditioning. The engine has been modified and tuned by KWE to yield 460 bhp on the dyno. It has tubular exhaust manifolds, cold air intakes, enlarged throttle bodies and intake plenum, custom cams and internal strengthening. The radiator has been upgraded to an all-alloy type by NAR. The gearbox has been fully rebuilt, and a new high-torque clutch fitted. The suspension has been fully stripped, shot-blasted and powder-coated. All rotating, moving and resilient parts have been renewed and/or upgraded. The springs are Aston-Martin Eibach types. Dampers are AVO adjustables. Tyres are 335 x 35 x 17 on the rear, and 245 x 40 x 17 on the front. All are Pirelli P zero with negligible miles. The car is in peak condition and ready for sale, the owner having decided to reduce the size of his collection. Viewing strictly by appointment. Test drives for serious buyers only.

A wolf in wolfs clothing, this sensational 7.0 litre Lister Jaguar XJS cabriolet, packing almost 500bhp, is presented in superb condition, having received an extensive and comprehensive restoration, by leading Jaguar restoration specialists.
Born as a standard XJS V12 Cabriolet in December 1985 and notably first registered to Jaguar Cars in Browns Lane, Coventry. This striking car was subsequently delivered by its 2nd owner, to W P Automotive Lister cars in 1987, for its fully documented Lister transition. Carried out in stages, the Lister bodywork, suspension kit, steering wheel, big bore exhaust system, 3-piece modular wheels and Lister coachlines with logos were fitted in its first stage upgrade.
The Lister conversion, taken to the next stage later in the same year, included fitment of the current Getrag 5-speed manual gearbox before, in 1989, a new Lister 7-litre engine (LP118/70L), bench tested and producing a whopping 496bhp with 510 ft.lbs of torque, was installed, into what is believed to have been the first Lister MkIII Cabriolet constructed.
Purchased in 2012 by the last owner, a long-standing client of Nicholas Mee & Co, an extensive chassis restoration and mechanical overhaul was commissioned and undertaken by XJ-S specialists, KWE Ltd. Works carried out included removing the body; replacing all steel works to the sills, front and rear inner wheel arches, frontal chassis members and boot floor; before up to date anti-corrosion protection was applied, after which, the body was refitted and the car re-painted in high gloss Black. A new ECU and KWE's bespoke engine management system were also installed along with a custom fabricated exhaust system, the combination unleashing a further 60 horsepower. Simultaneously the gearbox was rebuilt and fitted with an upgraded clutch, whilst the suspension, brakes, steering and cooling system were also overhauled.
The restoration records folder, included in the cars history file, demonstrates all of the above works having been completed in 2014, with a total of, in excess of £103,000 of expenditure.
Originally in cream, the original interior has been re-trimmed in two-tone grey hides. While new matching carpets and occasional rear seats were also fitted. Interior walnut veneer finishers were also restored and the car, ‘topped off’ with new coverings to the roof and cabriolet detachable roof panels.
With less than 2,000 miles covered since the comprehensive restoration and upgrade, the car just received a major service and detailed preparation.
Presented in superb condition throughout, this astonishing Lister is ready to be enjoyed and by its next owner, with the assurance of a major restoration having been completed and just 2,000 miles recorded, since.
