Photos of the car were found on Facebook October 10, 2015. Currently in Bakken from Røyken, Norway. Restoration is www.tv2.no/a/6230064. It has been converted from RHD to LHD. The original body color was Claret but it has now been resprayed to a Dark Green color with an updated interior. The car was imported to Norway in 1987 and the Date of First Registration was May 25, 1987 in Trondheim, Norway. Original UK Reg Number A 422 HWK (Coventry) expired on February 17, 1987. This was one of eight early XJ-SC cars that was on display at the XJ57/58 Press launch of the new XJS Cabriolet and the new AJ6 engine on October 13, 1983 held at The Devonshire Hotel in Torquay, Devon. Text from the above website:
The classic is nicer than it was as a new car
The Jaguar XJS is no ordinary car in Norway. And the first cabriolet version is no ordinary car anywhere - at least not in this condition, notes the enterprising owner.
Unusual, roofless XJS with handling to match its looks.
What have you done with it? Restored it 100 percent, that is to say put in a newer and better engine from Jaguar, brain, intake with funnels, high flow exhaust and high flow air filter. Also changed gearbox (Getrag 5-speed manual), Koni adjustable dampers (6 pcs), sports springs, 1" thick anti-roll bar at the front (19 mm orig.), polyurethane bushings for the rack and anti-roll bar kit at the rear.
The car has been converted into a four-seater with a newer interior, Nardi signed wooden steering wheel, double round headlights, sandblasted and painted undercarriage, replaced all bearings and bushings, overhauled and replaced brake parts, much new on the bodywork, new wooden interior and new 17" rims. Even the windscreen wiper arms are new.
The painting is done by someone who has worked at Rolls-Royce, zero shimmer in the plates and so on...
Likes best about the car: The appearance, the driving characteristics and the torque in the engine.
Likes least about the car: The electrics (Lucas system).
Best experience with the car: It must have been having it at the EU inspection when the mechanic lifted it up, went under, looked and said "fifty... , better and nicer than new!".
Future plans for the car: I tell myself every spring that I will sell it, as it is used far too little... But every time I open the garage door in the spring and take it out for a wash, I can't bring myself to do it. But someone knocks on the door who I see really likes it, and we agree on a price, I think it will go.
If not, it will have to be taken to England to have the engine and chassis fine-tuned.
